We are currently preaching through the Old Testament book of Jonah. Jonah is one of twelve minor prophets, and the message of his book is relevant to the church today. Jonah’s story reminds us of God’s desire to save all kinds of sinners who have committed all kinds of sin, regardless about how we may feel about his desire to save. The spiritually proud, like Jonah, quickly forget their own need for God’s mercy and compassion and are the slowest to have mercy and compassion on others.
Rather than running from God’s plan like Jonah did, Jesus commands and invites us into his plan to save people from every nation, tribe, and tongue. We get to gladly join him in making the life-changing and eternity-securing message of the gospel known to those he desires to save!
